General OCC Report

QUIT SMOKING THE ‘EASYWAY’

A free and clinically proven programme to help people quit smoking is being piloted by OCC. The council is trialling the innovative, drug-free Allen Carr’s Easyway (ACE) method as part of ambitions to make the county smoke free. To find out more about ACE, including how to book a slot, visit the Easyway website.

COLLABORATION AGREEMENT AND LEASE OPTION AGREED FOR STADIUM LAND

Following the recent agreement of heads of terms for the lease of council-owned land near Kidlington for a new football stadium, OCC and Oxford United FC have confirmed that all other legal documents have now been agreed by both parties.

DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC HEALTH’S ANNUAL REPORT FOCUSES ON CLIMATE CHANGE

This year, the Director of Public Health annual report presents the local impacts of climate change on health and provides a roadmap for how local politicians and decision-makers can act to improve health, look after our environment, and, at the same time, reduce emissions both in Oxfordshire, and nationally.

NRS HEALTHCARE DATA BREACH

OCC has been notified that NRS Healthcare, one of its suppliers of health and care products, has suffered a cyber-attack and personal data has been breached. OCC is working with NRS Healthcare to understand the extent of the breach and will contact affected clients directly if their information has been taken.

COUNCILLOR ALISON ROOKE IS NEW CHAIR OF OCC

Abingdon’s Alison Rooke is marking her 25th anniversary since first being elected as a councillor by becoming the new Chair of OCC. As the ceremonial head of the council, the chair must be a serving county councillor but must remain politically impartial. A new chair is elected each May at the annual general meeting of the county council, which this year was on Tuesday 21 May.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING OUTSIDE COUNTY HALL REPAINTED

OCC is refreshing the design of the pedestrian crossing between New Road and Castle Street in Oxford to broaden its inclusivity. The addition of new colours aligns the crossing with the ‘progress Pride’ colours. The black and brown are to demonstrate support for marginalised LGBTIQ+ people of colour, with the triad of blue, pink and white bolstering support for trans communities.

MAKING MENTAL HEALTH CARE BETTER

People who have accessed adult mental health services are being asked to help OCC make mental health care better in the county. OCC is working together with doctors, voluntary groups, community services and others to help everyone in Oxfordshire with their mental health. To take part in the survey, visit https://letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/ before midnight on 15 July 2024.
